Janasatabthi Express to Trivandrum

Location

There are moments in life when you realize that you're doing something amazing; something that many would dream to do, or at least that you've been dreaming to do for ages. I experienced that when I first glanced at the wide landscapes of Arizona for example, when I met Mohamed Ali, or everytime I'm taking an after-lunch nap on top of a mountain in the Alps.

Sardinia trip on a sailing boat 163 votes

Location

Sardinia
Italy

The spectacle of a land seen from the sea, the spectacle of the sea lived onboard the Feeling.

Eco Actions On Tour:
Circumnavigating Sardinia on a sailing boat is extremely eco friendly! Living onboard is sustainable for its own nature; the most of the 430 nautical miles have been covered under sail, so at impact zero, water and gas consumption has been strictly limited to the necessary. A further energy saving has been possible due to an inflatable canoe, used in place of an engine powered tender! Moreover, despite the reduced sizes on the boat, we made a separate rubbish collection. It would have been possible to further reduce the engine use with some solar panels and windpower generators, in order to take down to zero (or at least very close) our ecological footprint.

Pratītyasamutpāda. Does that word say anything to you? If not, that's perfectly understandable, because that word is in Sanskrit. The meaning of this word is one of the most cardinal principle of Buddhism, and as I believe it is also the real essence of ecotourism.

Apero with perspectives

Location

Omata winery Paihia, NTL
New Zealand

There are many ways to enjoy an apero with your friends. One of the best ones I experienced until today was in the southern hemisphere springtime, as we were visiting our friend and bride-to-be in New Zealand. If you have the chance one day to go to New Zealand, take the time to visit the Bay of Islands in the Northern part of the North Island.

Eco Actions On Tour:

A winery kayak tour, as well as a winery bike tour, is a fun way to discover an area with a reduced impact on the environment and a positive effect on the local economy. You have the time to get to know the locals, their traditions and understand better the culture and the region.

Having a local guide is a big advantage. Our guide on the tour was born and bred in the Bay of Islands and could explain us a lot about what life is there. And of course our friend, who had been living in New Zealand for a couple of years and knew already the area, could tell us many more about the country and the bottleneck, erm... bottlenose dolphins.

We travelled by car to the Bay of Islands as we were under time constraints but there are also coaches linking Auckland to Paihia. Sailing is another way to reach the area. In order to reduce our flights carbon emissions, we could contribute to carbon off-setting programs as well as pay attention to reducing our carbon footprint in our daily life.

We stayed in the Beachside campsite in Paihia which is a member of the Northland Sustainable Tourism Charter.

Easy Rider? - Born To Be Wild - Evasion from London

Location

London

Living in London is a bit like living in a giant bubble, certainly filled with fun and lots to do, but still a bubble. With no car, expensive trains and beer fuelled Friday nights it’s almost impossible to wake up fresh on a Saturday and get away for a couple of days.

Eco Actions On Tour:

Riding a motorbike is probably not the most eco-friendly way to travel but redescovering nature and the beauty of the simple pleasures that it can give us, like the joy of the sun and the fresh air wile driving through a dusty road, the amazing seafood gift of the ocean and the open spaces that in the crowded city we forget exhist are all things worth remembering. Let's make sure we don't ignore the call for adventure! (...and if you make a deal "the Italian way" you get to spend a night for free in a motel, and save the water for not changing the sheets!)

Pirati di Sardegna

Location

Sardegna La Maddalena
Italy

Eco Actions On Tour:
