caravan/camping

I am hoping to get feedback about a travel idea for adventurous seniors.

Many older people, especially women, would like to travel locally and abroad but do not because of cost and safety concerns.

My plan is to acquire a minibus and caravan, which will be converted and equipped to accommodate myself and eight others for camping trips around Southern Africa.   (Very similar to Rotel Tours, see their website rotel.dc.)

I do not want to sell these tours, but rather have the group traveling together, do the planning and share the costs.

Africa a destination of aid or haven of investment opportunities

Africa if not misrepresented then underrespresented and as it  is now it has been relegated to the corner of the globe. This Era of globalisation is repositioning Africa as haven of investment opportunities. In the area of Eco tourism the continent has a huge potential , there are several mouth watering opportunities for destiantion marketing companies, travel agents , young international interns and volunteers can explore the possibilities abound in this marvellous continent.  Unidentified philosophy said:'' to discover new oceans you must lose sight of the usual shores''. and again if the only tool you have in your hand is hamer you will see every problem as a nail. its better to see something once than to hear it hundred times, come to Africa and see opportunities , you would be glad you did.

The pearls of Sicily Taormina & Eolie Islands

Day 7

Just the perfect day today, started with a warm and bright sun that gave the good morning to us and invited us to explore the lovely town of Taormina, where we had a 2 hour guided sight-seeing tour of the major historical attraction of the area. On top of that, the "crew" had more than 8 hours of free time, that they used in the best possible way: sunbathing on the beach and playing in the crystal clear water in front of Isola Bella, sitting at a bar savoring the best gelato or just doing some shopping in the little alleys of the town. It'll be our last day town, since tmrw morning we'll head towards the cape in the north coast to discover the Eolian Island, the first UNESCO natural heritage in Italy. Ready to boarding?

Sicily, Monreale, Agrigento, Etna!

Day 5

Early morning we dock the port of Palermo and fall victim to its picturesque beauty, as pretty as a postcard. We board our bus and drive and pick up Laura, our upbeat tour guide for the morning. She take us up to Monreale where we learn about the mosaic remake of God creating man through genesis. We are then lead into another traffic jam before our lunch break. We hit the road for another two hour drive to the South coast to meet Luigi. We take a tour of the valley of the Temples where the perfectly built temple of Concordia was located and enjoyed the sunset. later we reach our hotel in Agrigento where we are reminded of America as we observe that a Mc Donalds is right next door. The group finally receives a good dinner. It turns a quiet night as the students find wi-fi and the adults remains over a couple of drinks. Buona notte!

Cape Vidal SA

More hippos, today. Again we mostly see noses as the hippos are submerged in a pond to escape the sun.

THe last we saw of Dom was pretty much the same. Except he was submerged in his macbook editing a video. Shame for him, look what we saw...

A drive into Cape Vidal park, and just after the hippo noses we spot our 1st set of springbok. Not 1 of the big 5, but worth a few photos.

The springbok don't lure any leopards, but it is a bit early for lunch. Sadly we don't see any rhino, either. However, a ball of manure rolling across the road more than makes up for it - DUNG BEETLE! Clearly hungry, the little beetle has managed to shift the poo into the grass before we can get a proper look.

R61 Wild Coast SA

Another great wake-up in this corner of paradise, my body hurts everywhere, it must be the surfing from yesterday. Today there are still 350km ahead to port Saint Johns but first we have to interview Sean the owner of this wonderful place to learn how is possible to create a good compromise between, environment, tourism and social communities.  On the other hand there is no way we going to leave this place without a final jump from the top board!

We have a rich Sunday breakfast with Sean, then head down to the beach to try and catch some waves. Dom is already exhausted after 30 min struggling and fighting to get into his wetsuit. I try to do my best and I manage to get an easy wave, but after that, with my arm still suffering from yesterday, we return to the beach, get back in the car, and onto the N2 to drive along the wild coast.

Backpacking in East London, SA

Yesterday evening we arrived at the Buccaneers Lodge and Backpackers resort, just outside of East London, in Chintsa West. Established back in 1983, these guys are considered one of the early pioneers in the South African backpacking industry. After a little confusion over the sleeping arrangements we check in and enjoy an evening meal of South African braai with potatoes and vegetables. A few Castles later and we retire for the evening.

Albertinia is favourably placed near to the fabulous Garden Route here in the Western Province of South Africa, and provides an ideal base for visiting the popular destinations. So here we are!

Our wake-up call is provided by the tweeting guinea-fowl after a peaceful night at the appropriately named Guineafowl Guest Resort.
After a good breakfast we jump in Hilton’s 4wd heading to the spectacular scenic mountains of the Langeberg near to the quaint little hamlet of Albertinia whereby we have a scenic walk.

Let's go SA

About time!...The car is ready...we are too!!

We are not alone, even Liz, Dom's mum has decided to come along for our first stop: Garden Route. Born and raised in Cape Town, Liz has never been able to explore her own country, like many other South Africans, because of the Apartheid.

In those dark years, travelling in the holidays was certainly not as easy as for Europeans and even now not many people have the chance...so, what a coincidence! Why not go and explore the nearby Garden Route. It's getting dark very quickly, we left late and the traffic jams were very difficult to get through, but finally we get away from the chaotic metropolis and the roads are starting to become more lonely. A sense of freedom, vast plains open up in front of us in the twilight.
