Xola Consulting (Santa Fe, NM) has released a new report relative to the topics of climate change and of scarcity of water, and to the need and opportunity for the development of adventurous journeys in Brazil, Russia, India, China and Mexico. In the report, the challenges tackled by these five emerging countries and main protagonists of new economical growth, there is a clear call to do something about climate change and the scarcity of water by developing strategies with concrete policies in organising sustainable journeys and tourism services.
1 The report suggests a potentially positive connection between developing adventurous tourism and activities aimed at reducing climate change. Moreover, it has been detected that all these countries continue to emphasise mass tourism and products connected to it, increasing the need of seriously tackling the challenge in order to obtain more sustainable products in territories experiencing rapid economic growth.
2 The most important challenge indeed falls upon sustaining and supporting the rapid economic growth even by the tourism industry by offering the market products which are able to satisfy a niche of tourists, characterised in an efficient and effective sustainable management of the tourism industry, differently from how previous developed countries have done. The rapid and continuous change in the trend of mass tourism, could be directed towards a strategy which could be enforced by more intelligent policies, even by making tourism more attractive to tourists, by developing adventurous tourism in accordance with adaptation measures of climate change of each country.
3 The trend of investing in infrastructure demonstrates how tourism can continue to develop in each country and how this can be integrated in other initiatives of economic development. The rapid growth of these countries clearly means that they are experiencing a higher need of energy and this leads them to look into various renewable energy sources, differently from what previous developed countries have done.
4 The report ends with a discussion about the opportunities that the field of adventurous travelling is positively offering the global debate on economic development and the challenges of climate change and scarcity of water supplies. Cultural, regional, economical challenges, are certainly not common in view of the differences with the countries discussed.
5 Tourism, tour operators and in particular those who work in the field of adventurous travelling in these five countries, are invited to carry out an important role in ensuring that sustainable initiatives are successfully helping to fight climate change and problems concerning the scarcity of water.
