Day 7 Just the perfect day today, started with a warm and bright sun that gave the good morning to us and invited us to explore the lovely town of Taormina, where we had a 2 hour guided sight-seeing tour of the major historical attraction of the area. On top of that, the "crew" had more than 8 hours of free time, that they used in the best possible way: sunbathing on the beach and playing in the crystal clear water in front of Isola Bella, sitting at a bar savoring the best gelato or just doing some shopping in the little alleys of the town. It'll be our last day town, since tmrw morning we'll head towards the cape in the north coast to discover the Eolian Island, the first UNESCO natural heritage in Italy. Ready to boarding? Day 8

Day 5 Early morning we dock the port of Palermo and fall victim to its picturesque beauty, as pretty as a postcard. We board our bus and drive and pick up Laura, our upbeat tour guide for the morning. She take us up to Monreale where we learn about the mosaic remake of God creating man through genesis. We are then lead into another traffic jam before our lunch break. We hit the road for another two hour drive to the South coast to meet Luigi. We take a tour of the valley of the Temples where the perfectly built temple of Concordia was located and enjoyed the sunset. later we reach our hotel in Agrigento where we are reminded of America as we observe that a Mc Donalds is right next door. The group finally receives a good dinner. It turns a quiet night as the students find wi-fi and the adults remains over a couple of drinks. Buona notte! Day 6

Finalmente si parte, la macchina e’ pronta...e noi?Anche! Non siamo soli, anche Liz la mamma di Dom ha deciso di accompagnarci nella nostra prima tappa: Garden Route. Nata e cresciuta a Cape Town Liz infatti causa Apartheid non è mai riuscita come tanti altri Sud Africani a scoprire da vicino il suo paese. Durante quegli anni bui il concetto di viaggiare durante le vacanze non era decisamente lo stesso di quello nostro europeo e ancora oggi non tutti hanno la possibilità di farlo ecco che l’occasione e’ perfetta per scoprire la vicina Garden Route. La sera scende veloce, siamo partiti tardi e la traffic jam della city è stata dura da affrontare, ma finalmente ci allontaniamo dalla caotica metropoli e la strada si libera e si fa desolata. Una sensazione di liberazione, distese praterie si aprono al crepuscolo.

Non abbiamo tempo da perdere il viaggio che ci porterà per 6000km e’ lungo e le tappe sono serrate, incontriamo Shaqir e Siviwe entrambe guide locali che si sono dimostrati entusiasti all’idea del nostro nobile intento e in soli due giorni in alternanza Shaqir e Siviwe ci trasportano dai sicuri centri turistici nel CBD (Centre Bussines Disrtict), al cuore delle township delle comunità africane. Visitiamo il distretto di Langa la prima comunità Africana della città. Qui “colored” benestanti, poveri, poverissimi e senza tetto vivono fianco a fianco.

MMmmm….ok.. check-in, check-out! Motore uno? Apposto, Motore due? Apposto! ..cinture di sicurezza… boeing 777, trasferimenti, hostess, film, sale di attesa, piloti, aria condizionata, caldo, freddo, gelo… sauna! Lingue parlate, lingue scritte, bagagli a mano a rotelle a pedali…attese, corse, attese, sinistra, destra, dritto,  terminal 1-2-3-4-5…., uscita duemilatrecntoeseiB/C, numeri, posto a sedere 24J terza line, secondo corridoio, finestrino nord,sud,ovest,est..oohohohhhhhooo, carta d’imbarco, ora di imbarco, mo’ me imbarco…no caffè, snack, duty free, duy shop, compere,assaggini, identità smarrite, protatile fuori dalla borsa, via le scarpe …la cintura ..le monete… i petardi…

Pronti a partire? Sinceramente no, sale la tensione, devo ancora recuperare le magliette su a Seven Sister e Auny mi aspetta per le 10 a.m., comprare gli ultimi accessori, pulire la casa, fare la valigia …e mancano solo 4 ore… missione impossibile?No ci sono quasi!..sicuramente come al solito ho dimenticato qualcosa …”clack” Troppo tardi ..la porta di casa si chiude alle mie spalle..sono in ritardo e ho solo un ora per arrivare all’aeroporto di Heathrow.
